Industrial Visit to Atomic Energy Research Establishment (Fall 2024-25)

On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, with support from AIUB Community of Engineering Students (ACES), organized an industrial visit to the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) in Gonokbari, Savar, Dhaka. A group of 23 students, accompanied by two faculty members, participated in the visit to explore the advancements in nuclear research and technology.

The visit began with an introductory briefing by Mr. Md. Shamsul Islam (Principal Librarian, Scientific Information Unit (Siu), AERE) who provided insights about on-going research, safety protocols, and the significance of atomic energy. Mr. Anisur Rahaman (Principal Scientific Officer, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission) conducted a detailed session at the nuclear reactor, explaining reactor operations, radioactive materials, and their industrial applications as the students proceeded with the visit. This segment allowed students to observe the operation of the reactors and different research applications. Next, Mr. Mohammad Anwar Hussain (Chief Engineer, Radioisotope Production Department ) led a session on isotope doping  , explaining its scientific and industrial significance. A live demonstration was conducted to illustrate its practical applications. Towards the end, Dr. Md. Abdul Malek Soner (Director & CSO, Institute of Energy Science) provided an overall briefing and expressed gratitude for the visit.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, allowing students to engage in discussions and clarify their understanding. As token of appreciation, AIUB souvenirs were presented to the Chief Scientific Officer of SIU and AERE by Dr. Gour Chand Mazumder (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) and Mr. Bishwajit Banik Pathik (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB). The visit proved to be a valuable learning experience, providing students with in-depth knowledge of the advanced applications of atomic energy.
