Industrial tour to Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) initiated by the Department of EEE for Post Graduate Students

On the 27th of November, 2014 the students under Post graduation (MEEE) got the opportunity to visit the only atomic research center of Bangladesh “Atomic Energy Research Establishment” situated in Ganakbari, Savar. Around 25 students along with the faculty members: Dr. M Tanseer Ali (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE) Mr. M. S. Muhit (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE), Md. NaziburRahman(Lecturer, Department of EEE), Ms. SharminJahan(Lecturer, Department of EEE), Mr. WayeshQarony (Lecturer, Department of EEE), Mr. Raja RashidulHasan (Lecturer, Department of EEE) Mohammad Ismail Hossain(Lecturer, Department of EEE) and Mr. TawsifIbneAlam (Lecturer, Department of EEE)  visited the place with zeal and greatest interest. AERE is a major research set-up of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) covering 259 acres of land and many research units: Institution of Nuclear Science and Technology, Institution of Electronics, Institution of Computer Science, Nuclear Minerals Unit etc. The institute has the only nuclear reactor of Bangladesh of about 3MW capacity. The reactor has so far been used in various fields of research and utilization such as, neutron activation analysis (NAA), production of radioisotopes, neutron scattering experiments etc. After the arrival at AERE, students and the faculty members received warm welcome from Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Director; Dr. Swapan Kumar Chakroborty, P.S.O; Md. Shamsul Islam, Senior Librarian and Mr. Khokon Chandra Barman, Sci. Assistant of the respected institution. They offered an informative video presentation on various AERE research facilities developed and current continuing projects; which will be an asset for the students interested in this very field. Although the AERE offers vast research interests, this visit was mainly focused on Practical Nuclear Reactor Experience. Students and faculty members were divided into 2 groups in order to explore the reactor facility area. In theory students were informed about various types of nuclear reactors, with the help of this visit students gained firsthand experience on Swimming Pool Type, heat extraction system and control room. At the end of the tour, Dr. M Tanseer Ali and Mr. M. S. Muhit showed their gratitude by presenting souvenir to Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dr. Swapan Kumar Chakroborty, Md. Shamsul Islam and Mr. Khokon Chandra Barman, Sci. Assistant on behalf of AIUB. The organization also admired MEEE department of AIUB and a special thanks to Mr. Manzur H.
