On Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering(FE) organized an Industrial Tour, supported by IEOM AIUB Student Chapter, to the ''Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited Bangladesh'' located in Sonakanda, Bandar, Narayanganj. Twenty-three students from the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering(IPE) were accompanied by Mr. Mahamudul Hassan, Assistant Professor,FE, AIUB and Dr. Md. Mahadi Hasan, Assistant Professor, FE, AIUB both of whom coordinated the tour which aimed to provide practical insights into shipbuilding and dockyard maintenance.

Upon arrival at around 1:00 PM, students were welcomed by dockyard officials and ushered into the auditorium, where a promotional video introduced DEW’s history, capabilities, and key achievements. Engineers then led the group through the subassembly and assembly bays, the CNC equipped fabrication area, and the docking basin, providing firsthand insight into angle rollers, vertical boring and turning machines, radial drills, hydraulic presses, ship engines, and generators—underscoring the indispensable role of heavy machinery in shipbuilding.

The tour continued through the Framing Section, Outfitting Shop, ICE Shop, Maintenance Shop, and Electrical Shop, where DEW engineers answered questions on ship structure, interior outfitting, engine assembly, and system maintenance. At approximately 4:00 PM, the visit concluded with AIUB presenting tokens of appreciation to the dockyard officials. This educational excursion delivered invaluable practical exposure, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical study and real-world‑ engineering—and our sincere thanks go to the DEW engineers and staff for their expert guidance throughout the tour.
