For the first time ever in Bangladesh, Engineering Students’ Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) AIUB Unit Face organized a workshop on “Implementation of Line Follower Robots” at the university premises, Room-266, Building-2, AIUB on 9th April, 2015. The purpose of the workshop was to enable students who are enthusiastic about robotics, to build their own line follower robots by combining their knowledge of coding, algorithm and wits, hardware and circuits along with the practical applications of a line follower in today’s modern world.
The workshop started with the national anthem followed by, a brief promo video of ESAB, focussing on ESAB's aim, vision and activities. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain (Professor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) provided an ornamental inaugural speech, specifically emphasizing to the facts about learning robotic engineering and shared his valuable in depth knowledge on line follower robots. Wishing his best the participants, he ended his speech declaring the workshop open. Later on, Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE & Special Assistant, OSA), introduced the honourable guests and mentioned the achievements of Bangladesh in robotics in international fields. He also gave away a motivational speech inspiring engineering students to use their merit to serve the society with passion.
The long awaited workshop started with Mr. Khaled-Bin-Moinuddin, one of the members of team “BUET Exponential”. He started his speech with the basic theoretical knowledge on line follower robots. He explained the aim of line follower robots in industry and presented a power point presentation which included basic mechanism of line follower, details of the required hardware (IR sensor, Arduino Uno board, Motor controller) and power division. The session ended with an interactive question answer session with the students. The second session of the workshop started with the articulation of another member of Techkriti winning team, Mr. Abul Al Arabi. He discussed the practical applications of line follower robots. His speech also included suggestions to choose materials carefully and assembling components. The building session and coding session was mentored by Mr. Khaled-Bin-Moinuddin. During this session, the instructors provided hands on expertise of implementation and assembly of line follower robots to the students.
Afterwards, Mr. Tawsif Ibne Alam (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB), provided a motivational speech emphasizing on the benefits of attending a workshop of this magnitude, describing it as the first step in the right direction of building and assembling robots. He also thanked the instructors for their effort and valuable time they have invested for sharing their knowledge in this workshop. Right after, Mr. Arif Raihan Maahi (General Secretary, ESAB) delivered an inspirational speech to the participants. He focussed on their passions and visions towards their aims in life and also asked them to keep a mentality to share knowledge in order to shine in the long run.
In the ending speech of the workshop, Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE & Special Assistant, OSA) shared his views over the workshop and expressed his expectations from the students and thanked both the instructors and ESAB AIUB Unit Face for their ongoing initiatives to share knowledge. Afterwards, all the honourable guests as well as the instructors were provided with token of appreciation from ESAB AIUB Unit Face and certificates were provided to the instructors by Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain and Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan. The workshop ended with a demonstration of line follower robots that were assembled by the students in the workshop. ESAB AIUB Unit Face is also grateful to Ms. Tajbia Karim (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB), Mr. Sayed Mohammad Baker (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB), Ms. Sadiya Yasmin (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB), Ms. Shahreen Hassan (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB), Ms. Tasnuva Tasneem (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB) and Mr. Mehedi Hasan (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB) for their support and presence in the event which inspired the participants a lot. The entire workshop was hosted by Ms. Kazi Aniqa Nawar, ESAB Unit Face Member and Ms. Siam Haque. Executives and all organizing and working members of ESAB AIUB Unit Face attended the workshop.
