IEEE MTT-S AIUB Student Branch Chapter organized “Seminar on Research and Prospects of Microwave Engineering: From Designers Perspective”

Wireless communication has become the anthem of our age. The need of wireless communication is rising every day, which is fueled by the research on this field. Through the initiative of IEEE MTT-S AIUB Student Branch Chapter and IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh, an informative seminar on Microwave Engineering took place and made it possible for students and prospective researcher to interact with one of the leading researchers of the field. The seminar was focused on designer's perspectives of microwave engineering research.

The seminar was conducted on 25 May 2016, at Room # 266, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director & Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; delivered the opening remarks of the seminar. He talked about huge possibilities in sector of communication and advanced 4G. The keynote speaker of the seminar was Mr. Sagar K. Dhar, PhD Student, iRadio Lab, Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada. The seminar mostly concentrated on the different aspects of microwave engineering, which prospective researchers can pursue. The speaker started the seminar by going over various aspects of microwave engineering. This included definition of microwaves, the applications of the field, the difference between transmission line and microwaves, amongst other topics. He then went on to describe processes of antenna miniaturization, such as slotting, bending, loading and other methods. He also highlighted the challenges faced while improving the parameters such as power consumption due to non-linearity. The speaker also talked about printed monopole antennas. He discussed the challenges of monopole antennas and Non-foster matching of antenna. He also talked about RF-Band selection filter, power amplifiers and future of communications system, which included fifth generation (5G) cellular networks. The session concluded with an interactive question and answer session with the speaker.

Afterwards Mr. Nasim Al Islam, Chair, IEEE MTT-S AIUB Student Branch Chapter; took the stage. He spoke about the importance of the seminar and accomplishments of the chapter. Then Mr. Rinku Basak; Head of Graduate Program & Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, AIUB; discussed about field of microwave engineering. He also talked about radar application, electromagnetic wave and Fourth Generation (4G) communications systems. Later, Mr. Rinku Basak and Dr. M. Tanseer Ali, Counselor of IEEE AIUB Student Branch & Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, AIUB presented the keynote speaker a token of appreciation, on behalf of IEEE MTT-S AIUB Student Branch Chapter. The event was blessed with the presence of Mr. Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad, Motivator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch & Lecturer, Dept. of EEE, AIUB & Mr. Kawshik Shikder, Teaching Assistant, Dept. of EEE; along with 50 IEEE AIUB Student Branch members and 30 students of AIUB.
