IEEE AIUB Student Branch Hosted “IEEE Bangladesh Section Student Branch Ex-Com Summit 2016”

On 25th March, 2016, IEEE AIUB Student Branch successfully organized the IEEE Bangladesh Section Executive-Committee (Ex-Com) Summit 2016 at the Auditorium, Faculty of Business Administration Building, AIUB. The summit was organized for the proper networking of the student members and the faculties from different universities.

The event begun with the opening speech delivered by Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Student Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Followed by Mr. Abdullah Ash Saki, Membership Development Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section, who gave his presentation discussing the reasons and benefits of becoming an IEEE member. Later Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain discussed the statistics of the number of IEEE members in Bangladesh, the initiatives that should be taken to fix the number of members and make sure to provide its members with the benefits that come with the IEEE membership.

Later on, the summit moved onto the Student Branch representatives’ presentations session with the presentation from the representatives from 15 different Student Branches. During the session each of the student branch representatives, each went up on stage and gave their presentation discussing about the events they have organized , the activities of the student branch members, the plans they have for the future and the limitations and problems they face as a Student Branch.

Afterwards, Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain answered a series of questions and Mr. Abdullah Ash Saki talked about the Student Branch engage drive and the monetary benefits the members should take to get the full IEEE experience.

After that, the next session started with an inspirational speech from Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Coordinator, IEEE WIE Region 10 affinity group. Then followed a detailed presentation on the WIE region 10 activities, achievements and plans for the future. Following her to the stage was Mr. Nasim Al Islam, Treasurer, IEEE Young Professionals, who discussed the benefits of being a member of the IEEE Young Professionals in his very detailed presentation. Next to take the stage was Prof Dr. Shaikh Anwarul Fattah, Chairperson, IEEE Bangladesh Section, who gave an inspirational speech motivating the participants present and discussed the student branch activities, the achievements and the special initiatives he has planned for the future. The next to take the stage was Mr. Abdul Goffar Khan, Vice-Chair (Technical), IEEE Bangladesh Section; Mr. M Hossam-E-Haider, Awards Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Mr. Abdur Rahman, Educational Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Mr. M Shamim Kaiser, Humanitarian Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Mr. Nafiz Ahmed Chisty, Professional Activity Coordinator, IEEE Bangladesh Section; Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Newsletter Editor, IEEE Bangladesh Section; each of them in their short presentations discussed their future plans in their own line of work. After them to take the stage was Mr. Abdullah Ash Saki. In his presentation he talked about the membership development campaign he has planned. Following him was Mr. Shihab Uddin, Secretary, IEEE Bangladesh Section, in his presentation he talked about the plans he has to co-create IEEE Next in Bangladesh and to make the members of the student branches more active.

Later Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah gave an inspirational closing speech and presented the award for the presentation to IEEE RUET Student Branch and IEEE AIUB Student Branch. The award for the best presenter was given to Mr. Anindo Saha, Vice Chairperson, IEEE AIUB Student Branch. Later Dr. M. Tanseer Ali, Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, gave a token of appreciation to Prof. Dr. Shaikh Anowarul Fattah and Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, with that concluding the Summit.

After that, followed a special session with Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz and the female participants, at room 151, Faculty of Business Administration Building, AIUB. The special session started off with an introductory session with the executive members present. After that she went on to discuss about IEEE WIE Affinity Group, how to sign up for it and how to apply for the WIE affiliate under a Student branch. Moving on she talked about her work in WIE and how it helps female members to get a platform in the engineering field. She also mentioned that the WIE platform is also open for male members.
