On 6th October 2015, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, in cooperation with IEEE Bangladesh Section celebrated IEEE day 2015 by organizing a daylong series of events with over 200 participants. IEEE day is one of the most festive events in the IEEE calendar. With the theme “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow”, this global event marks the day in which the global community of engineers, first met to discuss technical ideas. It was the first time that IEEE AIUB Student Branch received the honor of hosting IEEE Day in cooperation with IEEE Bangladesh Section.
Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Advisor, IEEE AIUB student branch; delivered an inspiration speech to start the event. Afterwards in the presence of Mr. Manzur H. Khan, Director, Office of Student Affairs, AIUB; Dr. M.A. Mannan, Head of Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Advisor, IEEE AIUB student branch; Mr. Farhadur Arefin, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Counselor, IEEE AIUB student branch; were awarded crests in recognition of their continued support for IEEE AIUB student branch. The ceremonial cutting of cake followed this. Series of seminars followed afterwards. The first on “Electrical energy storage system” conducted by Mr. Md. Navid Anwar, Lecturer, Faculty of Science and Information Technology, AIUB. The second seminar was on “Failure probability of Lithium ion batteries”, which was conducted by Mr. Nahian Al Subri Ivan, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. Ms. Mashrifa Islam, Manager, Fellowship Recruitment & Selection, Teach For Bangladesh; in her attempt to encourage women to pursue their dreams, took the stage in the WIE session. The last Event of Phase one of the schedule was another technical seminar on “Research activity on optical fiber & photonics”, which was conducted by Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Assistant Professor & Special Assistant (OSA), Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Mentor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch, then shared a few words with the participants and thanked them for being present.
After a brief lunch break the audience gathered at the entrance and rallied from the Faculty of Engineering Building to the Faculty of Business Administration building. The first event, to head phase two of events was “Technical Talk on Leadership”, which was conducted by Mr. Almeer Ahsan Asif, Facilitator, BYLC & Fellow, Teach for Bangladesh and Alumni, AIUB. Following the seminar was an interactive workshop on “Solidworks”, which was conducted by the event’s Technical Partner Error labs, Bangladesh. The next technical session of the day was a seminar on “Neuro Engineering” which was conducted by Dr. Mufti Mahmud, Researcher at NeuroChip Lab, University of Padova, Italy. The next in line was a brain teasing quiz contest, designed to stifle even the most intelligent members of the audience. The winner of the quiz contest was Ms. Siam Haque Daman of AIUB.
Following this was a session, Tech Track Treasure conducted by Mr. Md. Miftah Uddin, CEO, UBITRIX Inc, to encourage participants to keep themselves upto date with the current technological advancements. All speakers were all presented a token of appreciation by IEEE AIUB student branch for their contribution.
At the end of an eventful day, Dr. Sheikh Anwarul Fattah, Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section; delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging all to make the most of their IEEE memberships. He was also presented a token of appreciation on behalf of IEEE AIUB student branch. Mr. Shamim Kaiser, Student Activity Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section graced the event with his presence. The organizing team were also guided by Mr. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Advisor, IEEE AIUB student branch, Mr. Shahriar Hasan, Lecturer,Faculty of Engineering, AIUB and Motivator of IEEE AIUB student branch and Ms. Tasnuva Tasneem, Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB &WIE Coordinator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch. Mr. Farhadur Arefin, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB & Counselor, IEEE AIUB student branch; delivered the closing speech. He thanked all the participants and IEEE Bangladesh Section for extending their support in making the event as successful as it has been. Participants included students on multiple universities in Dhaka including AIUB, UIU, JU, DIU, etc. Daily Dainik Barta, Asian TV and SATV were the media partners of the event.
