IEEE AIUB SB participates in IEEE R10 Congress Hyderabad 2013
The IEEE Region 10 Student/GOLD/WIE Congress is biennial event of IEEE Region 10, which provides an opportunity for young IEEE professionals from Asia-Pacific to network with like-minded volunteers, learn from IEEE experienced volunteers and enhance their technical knowledge. The 2013 congress focuses on empowering Student, GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade), and the WIE (Women in Engineering) entities of IEEE. The Congress was based upon the theme of leadership from a broader perspective and catered to several other needs of the congress audience including Emerging Technologies, deep dive about IEEE, its structure and operations, and an amazing networking opportunity with peer volunteers from a delegation that will consist of people representing over 25 distinct nationalities and the principal entities of IEEE including WIE, Student and GOLD.
The R10 congress was held on July 11th to July 14th, 2013 in Hotel Taj Krishna of Hyderabad, India with the theme of ‘Empowering Women and Youth to create a better tomorrow’. IEEE Bangladesh Section was represented by different Student branches, namely AIUB, RUET, BUET,BUET GOLD, IUT, Ahsanullah University and East West University Student branch, comprising of total 22 members. IEEE AIUB SB was represented by the Chairperson Almeer Ahsan Asif.
The 4 day event was packed with seminars, activities, competitions and field trips across Hyderabad. The Congress was graced by some of the renowned speakers from across the globe such as IEEE Presidents Moshe Kam (2011), Roberto De Marca (2014), Michael Lightner (2007), Peter Staecker (2013), John Day, Darrel Chong (Vice Chair, Membership Development, IEEE R10) etc. Seminars such as ‘Volunteering and Opportunities for impact’, ‘Reasons to be proud to be an IEEE Member’, ‘Measuring the success of your IEEE Activities’ etc helped the participants understand how to improve the activities and quality of their respective Student Branches.
Almeer Ahsan Asif from IEEE AIUB SB was one of the selected 10 members who gave a presentation on their branch activities of 2013 in front of all the audience. The presentation got appraisal from other branches of India, New Zealand and Japan, thus elevating the name of AIUB & Bangladesh in an international platform. The participation of this congress not only helped IEEE AIUB SB to gain valuable insights of IEEE on global standards but also created a vast network with the other national and international Student Branches.
