HTM students’ Study Tour to Jamuna Resort

HTM students’ Study Tour to Jamuna Resort

It is a common practice for the students of the Hotel and Tourism Management (HTM) to learn about the tourism industry and organizations by going on sight seeing tours. The HTM students have already visited The Westin, The Sarina and The Sheraton Hotel. They have also visited the office of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, The Bengal Tours, The Guide Tours and many others in the previous semesters. This time round our first study tour was a bit different from our previous ones. It took us to The Jamuna Resort which is situated outside Dhaka near the banks of the river Jamuna. We went to the resort on the last Friday of the month that is on the 30th of October 2009.

The reason behind embarking upon this trip was to give the HTM students a feel of a place which was a tourist attraction point in its own right and also offered an accommodation facility with a difference. Being the biggest resort in the country, The Jamuna Resort is uniquely located along the banks of the legendary river Jamuna at the eastern approach of the Jamuna Bridge. The cottages and the service buildings are spread over 45 acres of land and it is beautifully surrounded by landscaped gardens of flowers and fruit trees. You can get a feel of the serenity of the place from the pictures the students took and the presentations the students are preparing for our next HTM Seminar. So, watch out for the Notice Board! The trip was not only about education but also full of fun and adventure, ranging from trying out breakfast and lunch at the roadside restaurants, participating in a singing competition in the bus, taking a relaxing boat ride in the waters of the mighty Jamuna while some were even brave enough to have a dip in the depths of the Jamuna. The students even managed to have a short football match and the last event was the icing on the cake – where we literally ended the day long activity by cutting a Birthday Cake! We would like to extend our heartiest thanks to The Jamuna Resort management for facilitating this unforgettable visit and a special thank you goes out to the Front Office Manager Mr Kamrul for taking the time to show us around the premises. Last but not the least we would like to express our gratitude to the AIUB management for making the trip possible by providing us with a bus and all other necessary logistical supports. We look forward to our next study trip with great hope and anticipation.
