On 1^st June, 2016, IEEE AIUB SB WIE Affinity Group in association with IEEE Bangladesh Section WIE Affinity Group hosted a workshop titled “Build Beautiful Websites Yourself”, at Room 266, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The goal of the workshop was to familiarize IEEE members, especially IEEE WIE members, with the various methods and factors to consider while building a website.

The event commenced at 4:00 PM in the evening with the opening speech delivered by Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Director and Associate Professor, Faculty of Engineering AIUB. Following this, Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, North South University (NSU) was welcomed to the podium, with brief history of her background and notable accomplishments.

Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, initially, gave an informative presentation on IEEE WIE Affinity Group, where she elucidated mission and vision of the affinity group. She reckoned that male students can be great allies for the female students in STEM fields. Thus, she encouraged male students to join the WIE Affinity Group and actively participate in its events. This interactive session effectively served as an opportunity for female students to learn about various programs and scholarships offered by the Affinity Group to thrive in their careers.

Afterwards, Dr. Lamia Iftekhar initiated the workshop. At first, she gave a brief description about different types of websites and their applications. Then, she went on to build a website on www.weebly.com, an online platform and launched it. Her prudently chosen methods helped students with no prior coding skills to grasp the basics of building a website. She explained the necessity of regular upgrade of a website to maintain convenience for the users. She emphasized the online ethics, such as, providing acknowledgments while using elements from other websites. On that note, she also propounded the participants to be original while developing a website.

As the program drew to a conclusion, Mr. Rinku Basak, Head of the Graduate Program and Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE, AIUB; delivered a closing speech while congratulating the participants and the instructor on a successful workshop. Furthermore, on behalf of IEEE AIUB SB WIE Affinity Group, he thanked Dr. Lamia Iftekhar for her time and effort in conducting the workshop, and presented her with a crest as a token of appreciation.
