It was an honor and a privilege to have Her Excellency High Commissioner Heather Cruden as the distinguished guest lecturer in the Fall 2014-15 edition of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series. The event took place on 16th September in the auditorium. This professional development program of AIUB was established in 2008 in honor of the Founder and Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). The Lecture Series invite prominent and distinguished personalities from different sectors of Bangladesh to speak before the students, faculty and the academic community as a whole. It has so far featured more than 20 individuals from various sectors like Foreign Service, Justice, Military, Business, Academia and Government.
The Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna graced the occasion with her valuable presence. A welcome speech was delivered by Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering. Her Excellency Heather Cruden has been serving as a High Commissioner in Bangladesh since 2011. She delivered a very informative and motivating speech on ‘Governance, Democracy and Development’, where she emphasized on women empowerment and poverty alleviation in Bangladesh. Ms. Heather Cruden also discussed on how the population of Bangladesh could be turned into assets, amongst other topics she especially emphasized on Canada-Bangladesh relationship and scope of development in Bangladesh.
After the lecture, a brief intellectual exchange between the Lecturer and the audience followed. As a whole, the students, faculty and management expressed profound appreciation and thanks to Her Excellency who made once again the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series prestigious and successful platform of knowledge. As a sign of gratitude, a Crest was presented to her by Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna the Vice Chancellor of AIUB along with the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Siddique Hossain, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Registrar, Program Directors, Department Heads and faculty members. Ms. Farheen Hassan, Head, Department of Management was the Master of Ceremony of the program.
