General Secretary of English Speaking Union meets the Vice Chancellor

The General Secretary of the English Speaking Union (ESU) of Bangladesh Major General (Rtd.) Jiban Kanai Das called on the Vice Chancellor Dr. Carmen Zita Lamagna at her office on 14 February 2013 at 12.30 pm. Dr. Faheem Hasan Shahed, Head of the English Department, was present on the occasion. ESU-Bangladesh is the 67th branch of the UK-based English Speaking Union of which Queen Elizabeth is the Chief Patron. It aims at promoting global harmony and strengthening socio-cultural bondage through English as the medium of communication. In this connection it organizes international public speaking contest every year in London among the champion speakers of different countries. These champions are selected out of hard-fought nation-wide contests in the member countries. For the 2013 event in London, ESU-Bangladesh is going to hold its National Grand Final on 2nd March for the first time in AIUB at its Auditorium from 10 to 11.30 am. Prolific public speakers from public and private universities as well as cadet colleges (including an AIUBian) will contest on a prescribed topic. Expressing his gratitude to the AIUB Management for extending such hospitality toward ESU Bangladesh, General Jiban Kanai invited Dr. Lamagna to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest which she gladly accepted. They also discussed on various relevant, mutually beneficial issues.
