The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized its Freshers' Orientation and Farewell Ceremony on 23 June 2026 in a festive and vibrant atmosphere, celebrating the arrival of new students while honoring the graduating batch. The event concluded with a colorful cultural program performed and organized by JMC students.

The program commenced with an introductory session by senior faculty member Mr. Niaz Majumdar, who familiarized the newly admitted students with the department. In a special video message, the department's Advisor, Professor Dr. AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, warmly welcomed the freshers and highlighted the department's commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and quality education. He also underscored AIUB's world-class academic facilities, including one of the country's largest and most advanced animation laboratories.

Welcoming the new students, Professor Dr. Pradip Kumar Panday, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, congratulated the freshers on joining the JMC family while extending heartfelt best wishes to the graduating students. In his address, he discussed contemporary trends in journalism and mass communication education, emphasized the importance of academic discipline and professional ethics, and encouraged students to uphold the values and standards of both the department and AIUB throughout their academic journey.

The ceremony also featured a formal farewell for the graduating students. Faculty members joined them on stage for recognition and a commemorative group photograph, celebrating their academic achievements and wishing them success in their future careers. This was followed by the official reception of the newly admitted students, marking the beginning of their journey at JMC.

Addressing the audience, Professor Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), praised the creativity, dedication, and accomplishments of JMC students, noting that the department has consistently nurtured outstanding talents. Dr. Faria Sultana, Associate Dean of FASS, welcomed the freshers and highlighted the growing significance of journalism and mass communication education in the era of artificial intelligence. She also appreciated the department's achievements and encouraged students to prepare themselves for the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Concluding the formal session, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, inspired the students with words of wisdom and encouragement. He advised them to remain punctual, honest, disciplined, and committed to lifelong learning, emphasizing that these values are essential for achieving success in both professional and personal life.

Following the formal proceedings, the audience enjoyed a showcase of creative works produced by JMC students, featuring journalism and animation projects that reflected their creativity, technical expertise, and professional potential.

The celebration continued with a vibrant cultural program, including recitations, musical performances, diverse dance presentations, and a short theatrical performance. The performances demonstrated the remarkable artistic talent, creativity, and enthusiasm of the students, adding color and excitement to the occasion.

The event was organized by senior faculty member Mr. Niaz Majumdar and anchored by Ms. Heeya, a student of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, who highlighted the significance of the event as a bridge between cherished memories and new aspirations. The cultural program was anchored by JMC department student Chandrika Biswas.

The ceremony was attended by faculty members of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, heads and faculty members from various departments under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, graduating students, newly admitted students, and their families, making the occasion a memorable celebration of new beginnings and successful academic journeys.
