The Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business Administration (FBA), AIUB, organized a webinar titled “Forensic Accounting: The Modern Era” under the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series on December 8, 2025. The session was conducted via the Zoom platform, with accounting major students as the primary beneficiaries.

The webinar featured Mr. Owen M. Hawkes, Partner, KPMG Forensic, Singapore, as the resource person. In his presentation, Mr. Hawkes introduced the core principles and scope of forensic accounting, emphasizing its growing relevance in today’s complex and technology-driven business environment. He discussed various types and levels of fraud encountered by forensic accountants, including financial statement fraud, asset misappropriation, and corporate misconduct. The session also highlighted the investigative techniques, analytical tools, and professional judgment applied by forensic accountants to detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud risks within organizations. Drawing from his extensive professional experience, Mr. Hawkes shared several real-life case studies, which provided practical insights into forensic investigations and helped students connect theoretical concepts with real-world applications.

The session was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, Former Vice Chancellor, Board of Trustees Member and Academic Adviser, AIUB. In her inaugural address, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the resource person for sharing his valuable knowledge and professional experience with the students. Professor Anwar Hossain, Advisor and Dean In-Charge, FBA, highlighted the importance of such academic initiatives in bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world practice. The session concluded with closing remarks by Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AIUB.

At the end of the program, Dr. Rezbin Nahar, Professor and Director, Undergraduate Program (BBA), delivered the vote of thanks and conveyed appreciation to Mr. Hawkes for accepting the invitation from FBA. Dr. Kamrul Hasan, Professor and Head, Department of Accounting, formally presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the resource person in recognition of his valuable contribution.

The event was organized by Ms. Sanjida Akhtar, Lecturer, Department of Accounting. Other faculty members from the Department of Accounting and FBA were also present and actively contributed to the session through intellectual exchange with the speaker.
