FOLKLORE 2022 – SYMPHONY OF THE WORLD, SEASON 2

- diversity that unites –

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “He who knows no other languages, knows nothing of his own”. Amidst oppression and suffering, that would probably mean very little. But today, forging its path forward towards progressive growth and development as a liberated nation, we have learnt to respect, appreciate, and understand the diversity of cultures, norms, and languages. It is all a matter of perspective; it is not what makes us different, but rather those very differences that makes us unique and brings us together to make this world an even more beautiful place to live in. Locked away in isolation during the harsh realities of the pandemic, that was the very notion we wanted to nurture our tomorrow. It was then that on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) at the American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB), undertook the humble initiative of Folklore 2021 – Symphony of the World, showcasing musical performances of the languages and cultures from around the world. Overwhelmed by the positive response and impact it had on students and staff of participating institutions, this year, OSA organized Folklore 2022 – Symphony of the World, Season 2, in an effort to introduce encourage our future generations to promote cross-cultural acceptance, prioritize working in harmony, and valuing each other in the years to come. Held on the 21st of February 2022, the Final Showcase presented 39 performances from students and staff of 19 institutions from 9 different countries across the globe, the one-of-a-kind event reached nearly 10,000 people through its online platforms and social media pages. The event was supported by The Daily Star, The Daily Jugantor, Radio Today, and News24 as media partners. The wholehearted participation of each and every student and staff of all the institutions nor only enriched the program further but stood testament to the idea that diversity does not have to divide, rather, if we all willed, it can truly unite.
