First Photography Exhibition organized by Advertising Department of AIUB

INNER EYE

First Photography Exhibition organized by Advertising Department of AIUB  Time flies when you’re having fun, and good things come to those who wait. The two adages took a new meaning the last week of April on 26th., when Advertising Department hosted “INNER EYE” its very First Photography Exhibition by the students of FASS, AIUB. It has been a long year in the making; we had to keep postponing due to events beyond our control. Yet even as we delayed, we never stopped clicking our cameras! The fun, photo jumps, and laughter never stopped, and our long wait was finally rewarded with a wonderful opportunity to exhibit our pictures the last week of April. The Exhibition was to begin on 26th. April Monday, but the work behind-the-scenes began the week before. Photos were submitted, meetings called. Photos were selected, duties delegated. Photos were framed, broken (accidentally) and framed again. All in all, it was quite the burst of an end of the semester activity. Even the most dormant members of the team woke up, rubbed their tired eyes, and pitched in to make the event as good as it would be. And it was a GREAT event! It was so nice to see the great response we received even before the event was commenced (we were set to start at 3 pm)! We kept working nonetheless, with one team decorating the floor, another with cleaning the frames, another fixing the captions that Niaz Majumdar Sir (our course teacher for Digital Imaging) had approved earlier, and many others working behind and around the people who were already working! The entire layout of the floor was guided by Sir, and he personally put up all of our pictures. It was very inspiring to see our Sir hanging the photos of our very first exhibition. And then, once everything had been set, cleaned, and polished one more time for good measure, we welcomed our honorable VC Madam, Dr. Carmen Zita Lamagna and Dean of FASS, Dr. Tazul Islam to officially open the event by lighting the Mongol Prodeep (lamp). Having lit the Prodeep, they went around the exhibition, fixing their eyes on the photos, commenting on them (with their respective photographers in tow), with the VC madam frequently saying ‘Woow I like this one!’
A very warmhearted yet serious moment ensued when, after the first sight of the photographs faculty members and students started to pour in, and snacks were distributed while our VC madam signed our ‘comments’  book . As the day went on (and the 3 days after that), our Creative Pool Studio transformed into a bustling and lively Gallery, with teachers, students and their respective guardians coming in, scrutinizing and commenting on the photos. We even ended up selling quite a number of photos, which was quite a bonus, since most of us were too caught up in the experience and spirit of the event itself! On the last day of the event, all the photographers on exhibit were interviewed, as were some visitors and parents, giving their feelings about the entire exhibition and the photos we’ve captured. And so ended of what was to be our very first photography exhibition! After all the effort put into the event, and the reward of the sheer joy of it, it won’t be surprising to see more of these happening sooner! If nothing else, there is no doubt that our enthusiasm to be better photographers and develop variety and depth of meaning in our photographs has definitely taken a huge boost! A big thanks once again to the VC madam, Hasan Sir, Tazul Sir, Niaz Sir (where would we be without you!), and Dr. Shahidul Alam, founder of DRIK and Principal of Patshala for their words of wisdom and continued demand for us to excel even more!
