On Thursday, May 8th, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering (FE), Department of EEE, AIUB, in collaboration with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch, successfully organized a “Field Trip to Rural Power Company Ltd, 52 MW Dual Fuel Power Plant”. The field trip aimed to promote practical understanding and knowledge exchange in the field of power sector, application of engineering principles to power generation, and control systems to provide effective solutions to related problems.
The program began with an inauguration session conducted by Mohammad Jahangir Alam Mazumder, Superintending Engineer (Plant In-Charge), RPCL-Gazipur 52 MW Power Plant, Kodda, Gazipur. During this session the participants were introduced to the operation and functions of power plant, which set the stage for an enriching day ahead. Led by him, a comprehensive briefing session covering topics ranging from the basics of power plant, power generation, projects & cost, fellow land details and power purchase agreement. His expertise illuminated key concepts, providing attendees with a solid foundation for the day’s activities.
The session enhanced the learning with interactive Q&A. Participants enthusiastically engaged in discussions covering power generation amount, future of power plant, projects & cost, internship opportunity in power plant. Following the inauguration session, Dr. Mohammad Tawhidul Alam, Professor, FE, AIUB, led a safety proceeding for the power plant visit.
Saiful Islam, Sub-Divisional Engineer, RPCL-Gazipur 52 MW Power Plant, Kodda, Gazipur, led the Central Control Room and offered a practical session about the control system. He emphasized the safety proceedings, digitization of control system, electrical and mechanical maintenance.
The most noteworthy aspect of the visit was the tour of the power plant, LV and MV room situated within the RPCL. Led by Asaduzzaman, Assistant Engineer, RPCL-Gazipur 52 MW Power Plant, Kodda, Gazipur, the tour offered firsthand insights into the methodologies and equipment utilized in activities such as generator, cooling tower, step-up transformer, boiler, fuel bunker and many more. The interactive nature of the tour allowed participants to engage directly in cutting edge technologies and procedures, enhancing their understanding of practical applications in the field of power generation. The field trip concluded with a brief closing ceremony and a pleasant lunch. Participants left with a newfound knowledge and a deeper appreciation for the powerplant.
The event started at 8:15 PM and concluded at 5:30 PM (GMT +6). A total of 25 selected participants, mostly IEEE Student members, attended the field trip, along with honorable faculty members Dr. Mohammad Tawhidul Alam, Professor, FE, AIUB and Dr. Md. Humayun Kabir, Associate Professor, FE, AIUB.
