On 3rd December 2015, The Department of Social Science in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences organized a day-long study tour for the students of National Culture and Heritage course to visit the Liberation War Museum (Muktijuddho jadugar) and Lalbagh Fort. The purpose of the tour was for the students to experience and learn more about the History and Culture of the country, Bangladesh. The tour was coordinated by the Course teacher, Ms. Shaira Matin.

The students made their first stop at the Liberation War Museum where they witnessed a massive amount of historic treasures from the most important event of the country’s history (the Liberation War) such as images, used equipments of freedom fighters, blood stained clothes,  weapons,  skulls and bones, mementoes and documents. The students were also shown a short documentary of the war that helped them gain a better understanding of how the event took place and what difficulties the people of the country faced for the independence of our land. In addition, the students also participated in a quiz relating to the liberation war and enjoyed a heartwarming speech by one of the Freedom Fighters (Muktijodhas).

The students then visited the Lalbagh Fort, a 17th century Mughal fort complex located before the Buriganga River in the south western part of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The students got a taste of the popular Mughal Architecture and also witnessed a number of books, armors, weapons that the historic figures used. They also got the opportunity to learn more about the Mughal Empires and the history of their land, experience the exotic beauty of the whole place and get a clear visual of the Mughal lifestyle.

The tour was an amazing chance for the students to physically experience and learn about the History, Heritage and Culture in depth. The organization of the tour was well planned so the whole team learned, experienced and enjoyed the trip and also took back with them valuable findings of the Heritage and Culture of their country.

The Department of Social Science expresses its heartfelt gratitude to AIUB management for their generous support to make this tour a success.
