FAO-AIUB COLLABORATED IN ORGANIZING A SEMINAR ON OPTIONS AND POSSIBLE APPROACHES FOR PROMOTING POSTGRADUATE STUDIES ON FOOD SECURITY AND POLICIES
The university hosted the seminar in collaboration with the National Food Policy Capacity Strengthening Program (NFPCSP)-FAO of the United Nations on 11 March 2010 in Campus 1 Auditorium of the university. There were two speakers who alternately discussed the topic, namely: Prof. Dr. Stanley R. Johnson, University of Nevada, USA and Dr. S.M. Zulfikar Ali, Research Fellow, Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. Dr. Ali focused his presentation on the status of Food Security in the country while Prof. Dr. Stanley discussed the various issues and significant research findings on food security and identified some policy recommendations for the offering of academic course on food security in the graduate studies. The seminar was attended by the Chief Technical Advisor of NFPCSP-FAO, Mr. Ciro Fiorillo, Dr. Rezaul Karim Talukder, the National Physical and Social Access Advisor of FAO, Dr. Nur Khondaker, Research Grant Administrator of FAO, The Vice Chancellor of Northern University Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. M. Shamsul Haque, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain, the Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva who delivered the welcome message, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences who delivered the Vote of Thanks, Prof. Dr. Siddique Hossain , Dean Faculty of Engineering, the Directors, the Department Heads and the Faculty Members from Economics, Social Sciences, Marketing and Accounting and Finance of both the graduate and undergraduate programs. A follow-up course of action will take place to discuss the details on how Food Security Course will be developed and implemented in the university. Mr. Ehsanul Huda Chowdhury served as the EMCEE of the program.
