A webinar titled "Project Management" was organized by the Faculty of Engineering, AIUB on September 26, 2021, Sunday. The webinar was held from 7:30 PM - 8:40 PM on Microsoft Teams online platform. The speaker of the webinar was Dr. Mir Mohammad Nazmul Arefin (Assistant Professor, Department of EEE). Mr. Nafiz Ahmed Chisty (Associate Professor & Head In-Charge, Department of EEE) acted as the moderator for the webinar. The target audience for this webinar was the Faculty members of FE and AIUB students working on their Capstone Projects.
The speaker of the webinar, Dr. Mir Mohammad Nazmul Arefin, started his session by welcoming the audience and sharing his career history. He introduced the basic elements of project management and defined the project cycle as having a birds-eye view of the project and efficient segregation of the project tasks. Next, he explained the parameters of SWOT analysis with examples of past capstone projects. Following this, he identified the breaking down of tasks, checklist preparation and faithfulness to deadlines as significant factors that contribute to team performance and encouraged the practice of maintaining meeting notes. Finally, he offered tips on integrating short-term deadlines into an example workflow and recognized the capstone project book chapters as good project planning guidelines. Furthermore, he warned against common mistakes in project management observed among students, such as replicating ideas from the internet without proper research or comprehension of the underlying theory and programming algorithm. How projects affect students’ prospects both academically and professionally was also discussed. In the final part of the presentation, Dr. Arefin gave an overview of collaborative productivity tools integrated with Microsoft Teams like Trello and Calendar, visually presented ideal and wrong workload distributions over the project period and discussed the importance of KPI in Agile project management.
Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman (Professor and Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering) provided the closing remarks by thanking the speaker for the informative session and encouraging the students to pay more attention to project planning and proper resources. He identified project management as a skill obtainable through effort and urged the students to find inspiration from past successful alumni. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mannan (Professor and Director, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB) co-hosted the event.
