EXPERIENCING HERITAGE & CONSERVATION AT SONARGAON

First year students of Architecture Department have visited Panam Nagar and “Boro Sardar Bari”, Sonargaon, Narayanganj on November 17, 2016 to experience Architectural heritage and to explore textures of the surface of those structures as part of their Studio exercise. They were guided by the Design Studio Teachers Farzana Siddiqua, Suraiya Farzana, Sumaya Islam to connect their Design studio learning with real world edifices.

Teachers of Architecture Department too joined the team to enrich their educational and professional knowledge by familiarizing themselves with the ongoing renovation process of 800 plus years old Boro Sardar Bari led by the Architect Dr. Abu Sayeed M. Ahmed. A presentation and discussion on the renovation by the renovation team helped the faculties to develop an insight about the complicacy and delicacy of this kind of job which needs to be done for many other Architectural heritages of Bangladesh. This involvement is an inspiration for the faculties to extend their professional skill in conservation projects through research and practical participation.

The support of Sonargaon Museum and AIUB authority made these tours a successful one. For the participants it was a memorable experience indeed. Architecture department wishes to continue their exploration of knowledge through practical exposure with similar encouragement in future too.
