Department of English of AIUB, organized a Webinar on "Conducting research on literary studies" on Thursday, 30 September 2021 at 11 am online. Conducting research is of immense importance for the faculty members at universities. Ms.Nazua Idris who is currently studying as a PhD scholar at Washington University was the key note speaker at the webinar. Mr. Hamidul Haque, the Head of the Dept. of AIUB, gave the welcoming speech in the webinar. Mr. Hamidul Haque said that research paper development is a common phenomenon in the scholarly field of Applied Linguistics but application of research methodology in literary studies is very rare. So, he hoped this webinar would be of immense encouragement as well as be effective for the faculties and the students of the Department of English at AIUB. The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, AIUB Prof. Dr.Tazul Islam also gave a very inspiring speech in the webinar before the presentation started. Through a very vibrant presentation, Ms. Nazua Idris could very successfully reach the expected outcome of the occasion by explaining myriad aspects of conducting research as well as publishing research papers in reputed journals of literary studies. The speaker quite clearly explained that the motto of her presentation was to fulfill the demand of both the faculties and the students of the Department of English. She mentioned the concern of the faculty members to be publishing in literary journals whereas the students are thinking about how to conduct research in literary studies for their academic requirements. So, she focused on the research process in literary studies, how to collect resource materials to be used as the theoretical base and background study support for the paper, how to find resources to send paper to literary journals, and how to find reliable journals to send papers.
The speaker also notified that the more people read, the more they can learn about the conventions of literary research and can get familiar with the new ideas that are coming up in the current conventions of literary research. She has also shared some reference literature and research materials with the faculties of AIUB. Ms. Nazua went through a very subtle as well as detailed approach by narrating the step-by-step process of a literary research such as from selecting a topic to collecting relevant scholarly papers on the topic to reading the papers and finding resources like journals of universities to publish the literary articles. The lecture also focused on the sources of different types of secondary data to be used in literary research papers. At the end of the presentation by the key speaker, there was a question answer session when the participants took part. Ms. Jerin Alam, Professor, Dept. of English, Dhaka University participated in the discussion. Overall, the students and the teachers of the Dept. of English, AIUB were highly benefited by the webinar to go on with more motivational underpinnings of doing scholarly research and publishing their papers in different journals. All the faculty members and the students of the Dept. of English, AIUB were present in the webinar online. Ms Tasnia Tarannum a faculty member of the Dept. of English, AIUB moderated the webinar. The coordinator of the seminar and workshop sub-committee of English department AIUB, Mr. Asif Kamal organized the webinar.
