The Department of Economics of American International University – Bangladesh (AIUB) organized “Economics Day 2015” on Thursday, 3 December 2015 at Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Building (Campus 7), Banani, Dhaka. The Pro Vice Chancellor of AIUB Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva inaugurated the ceremony at 10:00 am which continued till 6:00 pm. Also the event was attended by the honorable Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam and the Head of the Economics Department Md. Shawkat Ali.

“Economics Day” is organized every year to provide a platform to the students of BSS in Economics and BBA major in Economics, to show their talents and skills. It was truly a day for the students where they participated in different competitions and also performed at the cultural ceremony along with AIUB Performing Arts Club(APAC). This year the students of BSS in Economics and BBA major in Economics competed in four different events:

1. Poster Presentation: Based on concept, creativity and design posters with themes on Global Warming, Microcredit, Women Empowerment, Child Labour and Economic History.
2. Impromptu Speech: Students with quick thinking ability and prompt speech delivery were the winners of this event.
3. Power Point Presentation:In this event the students of BSS in Economics showed their presentation skills, slide organization and team work on topics like European Union, World Trade Organisation, South Asian Free Trade Agreement and Capitalism. Finally,
4. Debate Competition:It was the most enjoyable event of the day on the topic: ‘Money can buy happiness’. Both the opposing and proposition team presented their logics and challenged each other significantly. At the end the proposition team won because of their prompt reply, fluency and explanation of the topic by using economic theories.

To ensure a fair completion the events were judged by faculties from both Economics and English Departments.  The Prize Giving and Cultural Ceremony were held at 3 pm in the AIUB Auditorium at FBA Building. The winners received their prizes from Pro Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Vice President Academic Affairs & Dean (in-charge) Faculty of Science & Information, Prof. Dr. Tofazzal Hossain and Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam.

The evening became exciting with charming performances by the students and APAC members. The ceremony ended with laughter, joy, songs and entertainment. Economics Department expresses its sincere gratitude to AIUB administration for their generous support and cooperation and heartfelt thanks to the volunteers & performers of the event.
