The Department of Social Science at the American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) successfully organized a workshop titled "Literature as a Lens: Understanding Social Problems in Bangladesh" on Wednesday, 1 July 2026 at the Multipurpose Hall, D Building. The workshop aimed to strengthen students' research capabilities by providing practical knowledge on conducting effective literature reviews and identifying research gaps in social science research.

The program featured a distinguished panel of faculty members who shared their expertise on various aspects of the literature review process. Dr. Buddha Dev Biswas opened the academic sessions by introducing the fundamentals of literature reviews, emphasizing their significance in building a strong foundation for scholarly research. Dr. Sariful Islam then discussed the concept of the research gap, explaining how researchers can critically examine existing literature to identify unexplored areas and formulate meaningful research questions.

The main session was conducted by Dr. Prodhan, who provided a hands-on demonstration of conducting literature searches using Google Scholar and advanced Boolean search techniques. The session equipped participants with practical strategies for locating relevant academic sources efficiently and systematically.

The workshop concluded with a session by Dr. Ashrafuzzaman, Head of the Department of Social Science, who highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in academic research. He discussed how AI-powered tools can support researchers in conducting literature reviews more efficiently while emphasizing the importance of maintaining academic integrity, critical thinking, and ethical research practices.

The event was hosted by Ms. Shaira Matin, whose engaging moderation ensured the smooth progression of the program. The workshop was organized by Ms. Tasnova Ulfat, whose efforts contributed to the successful planning and execution of the event.

The interactive workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, providing attendees with valuable insights into modern research methodologies and the effective use of digital tools in academic research. Through initiatives such as this, the Department of Social Science continues to promote research excellence and equip students with essential academic skills for their future scholarly and professional endeavors.
