Department of Finance organized a visit to Bangladesh Krishi Bank

Students of the Bank Fund Management course from the Department of Finance went to a study tour of the Bangladesh Krishi Bank’s Marjal, Narsinghdi branch on November 11, 2010. The trip was a day-long event which started with an informal lecture about the operations of the bank in the branch manager’s office. The tour group, which included students and faculty members, then went to a local school house where the group learned in detail about what the Bangladesh Krishi Bank does, how it functions, what kind of loans it offers, what kind of rates it offers for different loans, how it differs from traditional commercial banks and what the bank does to reach out to farmers. Students were particularly keen to learn about some of the schemes offered by the bank, such as the “Ghore Fera” scheme which is offered to reverse the flow of migration to the cities and the easy checking account which allows farmers to open a bank account for as little as 10 Taka. The tour was organized by Mr. Hasan A. Mamun, lecturer in the Department of Finance, and he was accompanied in the tour by Mr. Marvin Rozario, Mr. Hamidul Islam and Mr. Sultanul Nahian Hasnat from the Faculty of Business Administration.
