Department of Finance organized a seminar on “Basel I and II: Theory and Practice”
The Department of Finance presented a seminar on “Basel I and II: Theory and Practice” in the AIUB auditorium on November 2, 2010. The resource speaker in the seminar was Mr. M. Arfan Ali, Executive Vice President and Manager, Principal Office Branch, of Bank Asia Ltd.
Dr. Charles Villanueva, the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration and the chief guest of the seminar, started the proceedings by introducing the resource speaker. Mr. Ali spoke in detail about the Basel I and II accords and why they were necessary. He then talked about their implementation in Bangladesh, and the various steps that banks have to take to put these steps into practice. Mr. Ali concluded by showing some financial models on how banks can mitigate their risk exposure without affecting their bottom line.
At the end of the seminar, the resource speaker was given a certificate of appreciation by Dr. AKM Matiur Rahman, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, and some souvenirs from AIUB were handed over to the guest by the BBA program director, Dr. AHM Ehsanul Huda. The event was organized and hosted by Mr. Hasan A. Mamun, lecturer in the Department of Finance.
