The Department of Economics organized a study tour on 01st December, 2016 at Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Savar. The day long program mainly focused on familiarizing the students of department of Economics with various activities of Atomic Energy research in Bangladesh. Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE) is a major research set-up of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) for peaceful application of nuclear energy in various fields of physical, biological and engineering sciences. AERE came into existence in 1975 by the acquisition of 259 acres of land at Ganakbari, Savar which is about 40 km away from Dhaka City and about 4 km north of National Martyrs’ Memorial at Savar. The primary aims and objectives set for AERE include fundamental and applied Nuclear research.
On arrival at the location, Director of the Institute of Radiation and Polymer Technology (IRPT) of AERE, welcomed the students and gave a brief presentation on the history, activities and research projects of IRPT. After that the students and the faculty members visited two other divisions of the institute:
- Institute of Food and Radiation Biology
- Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology
The students of Department of Economics as well as the faculty members acquired a lot of knowledge regarding different aspects of nuclear power progress and its economic aspects in Bangladesh on the study tour at AERE. Mr. Rubayyat Hashmi, Mr. Rezwanul Hasan Rana, Mr. Rezwanul Haque, Mr. Syed Afroz Keramat and Mr. Mizanur Rahman all faculty members of the Department of Economics accompanied the students in the study tour.
