Department of Economics organized a Study Tour to BARI

The Department of Economics organized a Study Tour to the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) at Gazipur on April 21, 2011. The BARI is the largest multi-crop research institute that has immensely contributed to the agricultural production to meet the growing demand of the country. On part of BARI authority, Dr. Abdur Rashid, Senior Scientific Officer and Mr. Bayezid Hossain of the Training and Communication Division produced a schedule that included a comprehensive lecture on the research and development activities and a field-demonstration on the experimental research of BARI. The students got a clear idea about how a technology developed through the field-level experiment goes to the farmer’s field. The study tour contributed much to the students, reflected in their participations during the lecture-discussion session and their queries during the demonstration. On the eve of starting the trip at around 9.00 AM from Campus 7 of AIUB, Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences greeted the students. The faculty members Mr. Shawkat Ali, Dr. Aminul Islam Akanda, Dr. Kazi Tanvir Mahmud and Mr. Syed Ishraque Osman, accompanied the students during the trip. distinguished faculty members of the department. The buses arrived at BARI campus at around 11.00 AM. The students were involved in collecting information until 2.00 PM. Subsequently, they took lunch at BARI Training Complex. On the eve of departure from the BARI campus, the students took part in a few courtesy games. The trip ended at 5.30 PM at Campus 7 of AIUB. Dr. Aminul Islam Akanda of the Department of Economics coordinated the whole program.
