Department of Computer Engineering (CoE) and Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) from Faculty of Engineering of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) organized the 1^st International Conference on Robotics, Electrical and Signal Processing Techniques (ICREST) on 10 – 12 January 2019 in its campus.

The opening address and welcoming remarks were given by Prof. Dr. ABM Siddique Hossain, General Chair of the Conference and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. Then the Chief Patron of the Conference Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB, inaugurated the conference. In her inauguration speech, she highlighted on the academic and research excellence achieved by AIUB as well as encouraged the young researchers to contribute to the development of the country through their engineering research. The opening ceremony was also graced by Mr. Mike Hinchey, Former Director of NASA Software Engineering Lab, Prof. Dr.  Henry Reiser, President of the College of New Caledonia, Canada, Prof. Dr. A. M. M. Safiullah, the honorable Vice Chancellor, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section, Dr. M Shamim Kaiser, Chair of IEEE Computer Society, Bangladesh Chapter and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Organizing Chair of the Conference & Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB.

The three-day conference featured a number of keynote speakers and other distinguished guests. 10 keynote speeches were presented by world renounced researched from home and abroad on subjects as diverse as, Power, Renewable Energy, Nanotechnology, Telemedicine, and others. Nearly 20 academic sessions with 134 papers were presented, authored by nearly 500 researchers coming from 13 different countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Pakistan, Qatar, South Korea, Thailand, UK, USA, and Vietnam) including Bangladesh. These panel sessions were designed to elicit maximum debate and conversations between the audience and the experts on the panel. In addition, three-day long workshops, project exhibition, poster competition were organized during this vibrant conference.

On Friday evening, before the banquet, a cultural program was presented by the AIUB Performing Arts Club to entertain the participants and guests. Prof. Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended the cultural program and the banquet as chief guest. He thanked the organizers as well as AIUB for organizing this international conference and also shared his valuable knowledge and experience with others.  

The closing ceremony of ICREST 2019 took place on January 12, 2019 in the auditorium of AIUB. The recognition and award part of the program was dignified by the presence of Ms. Nadia Anwar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founder Member of AIUB. After her inspiring speech, she handed over the Dr. Anwarul Abedin and Mrs. Hasna Abedin awards for the top position in different categories.

The Organizing Chair of the Conference & Associate Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman announced the closing of the conference after delivering the vote of thanks.

The conference was made possible because of generous financial support from a number of organizations. This enabled logistics and travel support for keynote speakers and authors who traveled to Bangladesh from various parts of the world. Among the sponsors who gave generous financial support are: MEP Group, Rahimafrooz Ltd, Reverie Power & Automation Engineering Ltd., RM Power, and Shoibal Construction. Special grant from the ICT division helped to organized a day-long workshop on Robotics Design Engineering.
