Organized by the Department of English, a daylong parliamentary debate competition was held on 24th March, 2016 at American International University-Bangladesh. Debaters from six leading English and Bangla Medium School and Colleges contested in the parliamentary debate on the theme “Globalization, Media & Culture of 21st Century”. Among the participant institutions there were Notre Dame College, Rajuk Uttara Model College, Maple Leaf International School, Saint Joseph School, Mastermind School and American Standard International School. The competition was organized with the help of AIUB Oratory Club (AOC). The simultaneous debate sessions were held in different rooms of FASS building. The teachers of the Department of English and the members of AOC adjudicated the debate sessions.
The program started with 16 participant teams in the first round. The second round was held with the best 8 participant teams. After the lunch break, for teams debated the semi-final round leading to the final round. The final round competition between two teams of Maple Leaf International School was held at the Media Studio, FASS building. Honorable Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam was present in the final round of the debate and distributed crests and certificates among the winners and other participants along with the Head of the Department of English, M Hamidul Haque. Maple Leaf International School won the competition and became both Runners up and Champion.
Teachers and students from the Department of English and other departments were also present on the occasion to enjoy the debate.
