On 28^th August, 2016, IEEE AIUB Student Branch hosted a daylong workshop on “Electrical Services and Wiring for Building” presented by IEEE Young Professionals Bangladesh Section and co-organized by IEEE IA-S AIUB SB Chapter. The workshop was hosted at room 266, Faculty of Engineering Building, AIUB. The goal of the workshop was to familiarize IEEE members with electrical fundamental of building wiring system and its practical simulation.

The workshop was divided into two sessions. 1^st session commenced at 9:30 AM with the opening remarks from 1^st instructor Mr. M. S. MUHIT, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB. He went on to talk about various topics regarding wiring in different infrastructural buildings. He talked about different types of wire, wiring layouts and their load capacity. Later on he talked about the security measurement planning before wiring cable in a building. Afterwards 2^nd instructor Mr. Shyam Bin Jamil, Electrical Engineer, EME, Rangs Properties LTD; talked about the importance of simulation before dive into practical wiring. He discussed about the steps of designing. He instructed participants to use Auto CAD for simulation. He demonstrated the process of component placement, load calculation, lighting design. He showed step by step procedure of designing a build layout. Then a small Q&A session took place and following that 1^st session was concluded at 12.30 PM. 2^nd session of workshop began after 1:30 PM. Mr. Shyam Bin Jamil resumed his demonstration of building layout design. He showed wire connecting process and required electrical components quantities calculation. Through this demonstration Mr. M. S. MUHIT assisted the participants with his perseverance to follow every steps successfully. After that all participants were requested to do wiring design and calculation of any designed layout. All the participants completed their task properly. Participants felt confident about their basic skills on building wiring.

Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB; induced participants to study on electrical service and wiring system. He also discussed about the importance of proper wiring system in a building and its safety measurements. The workshop was concluded as Prof. Dr. A.B.M Siddique Hossain presented Mr. M. S. MUHIT and Mr. Shyam Bin Jamil a token of appreciation on behalf of IEEE YP Bangladesh section. The participants were presented a certificate to honor their wholehearted participation.

A total of 60 EEE students were present in this workshop among which 45 were the IEEE AIUB SB’s members, including members from Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited, Dhaka University, United International University, East West University and North South University.
