On April 2014, Engineering Students’ Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) AIUB Unit Face got affiliated with AIUB with a formal signing ceremony, that took place in AIUB premises. To remember the day, on 29th March 2018, ESAB AIUB Unit Face successfully organized a daylong celebration titled as “ESAB Affiliation Day’ 18”. The daylong event schedule consisted of different conducive workshops titled “Industrial Automation (PLC)”, “MATLAB & Simulink” and “Self -Defense for Women”, a cultural program and ESAB alumni meetup. With enthusiastic participation of more 110 students, ESAB members & volunteers and alumni, the daylong celebration took place at AIUB campus.
The workshop titled “Industrial Automation (PLC)” was a daylong workshop held in annex-2, engineering lab. The workshop helped the participants in enhancing their professional knowledge about Industrial Automation (Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Building Management System (BMS)) along with their undergraduate studies. Mr. Abdullah Mohammad Jubaer (Asst. Manager – Electrical, Akiz Food & Beverage Ltd), conducted the opening session with the basic definition of Automation and perception in Industrial Automation and discussed about its application in different aspects of the modern world. The second session titled as “Building Management System (BMS)” which was directed by Jahidul Islam(Executive Engineer (R&D) BMS Division, System Engineering Ltd).
Almost at the same time, workshop titled “MATLAB & Simulink” was conducted by Md. Arif Abdulla Samy (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE and CoE, American International University-Bangladesh) and, S.M. Imrat Rahman (Lecturer, Dept. of EEE and CoE, American International University-Bangladesh), in annex 2 building, to provide remarkable and descriptive information about the fundamentals and implementation of MATLAB. Mr. Samy opened the workshop with the introduction of MATLAB and continued with describing the functionalities, advantages and the significant role played by MATLAB in every field of engineering. Afterwards, S.M. Imrat Rahman instructed the students about Simulink and ended the workshop with a basic system design.
“Self -Defense for Women”, a workshop intended for women which would prepare the female students to open up building confidence in physical resistance skills. It was held at annex-2. The workshop started with the inaugural speech by Tajbia Karim (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB and Motivator of ESAB AIUB Unit Face). Then she introduced Md. Daif Salemoon (Instructor, Gulshan Karate Dojo, Black belt (Shodan), Certified by Traditional Karate Association, USA) as the honorable instructor of the workshop. He shared his aptitude and overall notion on self-defense. He showed many defensive moves including ground defense which can be really helpful for everyone especially women. He gave importance to the proper techniques or postures while defending, so that a minimum effort in a defensive move can be resulted as a maximum success. At the end of this workshop the participants were handed over certificates and gift kits on the presence of Md. Daif Salemoon.
The formal opening of the day-long celebration was done by the inauguration speech of Dr. A.B.M Sidiqque Hossain (Professor and Dean, Faculty of Engineering, American International University Bangladesh) who welcomed and inspired the enthusiastic participants with his motivational speech. He stated the importance of such conducive workshops and also suggested to organize more workshops in future for the benefit of the students. Afterwards souvenirs and certificates were handed over to the instructors as a token of appreciation for their effort in making the events successful. The cultural program consisted of songs, dance and drama performed by the members and volunteers of Engineering Students’ Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) AIUB Unit Face as well as AIUB students. The evening would not have been the same without the presence of Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan (Professor and Head of undergraduate, Dept. Of EEE & COE, American International University Bangladesh), Mr. Md. Saniat Rahman Zishan (Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, Special Assistant, Office of Student Affairs & Mentor, ESAB AIUB Unit Face), Mr. Md. Nasimul Islam Maruf (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE & COE, American International University Bangladesh) Mr. Tawsif Ibne Alam (Assistant Professor, Dept. of EEE & COE, American International University Bangladesh & Motivator of ESAB AIUB), Tajbia Karim (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB and Motivator of ESAB AIUB Unit Face), Mr. Kazi Ahmed Asif Fuad (Lecturer, Dept. Of EEE&COE, American International University Bangladesh) and Mr. Safayet Ahmed (Lecturer, Dept. Of EEE & COE, American International University Bangladesh).
At the end of the program, certificates were handed over to the participants of “Industrial Automation (PLC)” and “MATLAB & Simulink” by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan. In the presence of Ms. Tajbia Karim and former members of ESAB AIUB Unit Face and representatives of IEEE AIUB Student Branch and AIUB Community of Engineering Students(ACES) were handed over gift kits. Afterwards there was an ESAB AIUB Unit Face alumni meet-up for motivating all the new volunteers of Engineering Students’ Association of Bangladesh (ESAB) AIUB Unit Face for the upcoming volunteering experiences.
