On December 08, 2015, the entire Faculty of Business Administration campus turned into a burst of color with the celebration of ‘AIUB Tourism and Hospitality Day’ organized by the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management (THM). The day started with inauguration of Photography Exhibition and Food Festival in the study area. Dr. Anisur Rahman Faroque, the Head of the Department of Marketing, Mr. A. K. Nazmul, Director of BBA Program and other faculties attended the inauguration and visited the photography exhibition and food festival. There were information desks of ‘Hotel The Cox Today’, ‘Flyers Zone BD.’, ‘Green Tours and Travels’, ‘Visit Bangladesh 2016’, ‘Parjatan Bichitra’ Welcome Bangladesh’ and ‘Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of AIUB’. The booths were open all day and the attendees conveyed the big picture of Tourism and Hospitality industry and the prospects to study the major.
Beside these day long activities, a talk show, titled ‘The prospects of Tourism and Hospitality in Bangladesh’, was arranged as well to discuss the potentials of the Tourism and Hospitality sector. The resource speakers were Mr. Marfy Ruzdy, Operations Manager of Nordic Hotels Ltd., Mr. Mohammad Zahirul Islam, Head of Sales and Marketing of Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf and Mr. Erfan Khaled Syfullah, CEO of Integrity 360 Degree, an event management organization. Dr. Anisur Rahman Faroque, the Head of the Department of Marketing, gave a welcome note and at the end handed over the certificates and souvenirs to the guests. Ms. Tahsina Khan, Ms. Nazia Farhana and Ms. Farjana Jasmine, attended the talk show with all their students. The guests shared their personal experiences and gave a vivid picture of the industry to the prospective students.
As part of this event, a cultural program was also arranged on December 09, 2015 at the Campus 1 Auditorium. The program started with a fun debate with the theme ‘Tourism and Hospitality makes our life colorful’. At the debate, Tourism and Hospitality major students were defending the title while students from other departments were against it. The debate was exciting and cherished by everyone because of both groups’ fun contribution and enthusiasm. After the debate, Mr. Solaiman Shukhon, Head of Business of Aamra Smart Solutions and mostly known as a standup comedian and undoubtedly one of the best public speakers of the country, was on the stage to share some of his own experience regarding the Tourism and Hospitality industry and inspire the potential students. After Mr. Shukhon’s exciting session, the temptation was raised to even a higher level by the amazing voice of Mr. Afdalin Bin Haque, Faculty of Management. His songs mesmerized everyone. Then the students of the department performed a fashion show to portray the different cultural aspects of Bangladesh. The show was fascinating and thrilled everybody. With the fashion show, the two day event came to an end. The event was coordinated by Mr. Redwan Salam, Assistant Professor, Mr. Erfan Haque Assistant Professor, and Mr. Mahmudul Hasan, Lecturer of Faculty of Business Administration of American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).
