“Celebrate Togetherness” A Cultural Evening at English Department

Department of English, AIUB organized a cultural program titled "Celebrate Togetherness” on a virtual platform on 4th April 2021. In the current situation of fear and awe of COVID 19, this dynamic initiative of the Department of English, is really praiseworthy. The faculties and students of the department have long been feeling deprived of satiating their cultural cravings. For a long time, they have been preparing themselves with their innovative cultural ideas and practices to share with each other through a virtual platform like this. In the evening of 4th April, the students and teachers of the department of English, availed themselves of this long awaited opportunity of holding a cultural get-together. Both the faculties and students performed on the occasion.

Among the performances there were song, poetry recitation, dance, story-telling and funny micro-play performed by current students, alumni and teachers alike. Alumna Musharrat Jahan Anchol presented a beautiful modern song. Faculty on leave Kuntala Shabnam Parama enchanted the audience with her beautiful Sachin Dev Burman song. Besides, faculty Shihab Saqib pleased the audience with his beautiful recitation of Robert Frost’s poem Mending Wall. A student of the department Shamma Saiyara performed the recitation of her own poem written against racism prevailing all over the world at the moment. Recorded dance performance by Kaspia, self-composed micro-story telling by Mrittika and songs by Emon, Sharmili, Tahmina were also of great entertainment for the audience. Out of the performances, one comedy play by the students of the department on online classes, sowed immense humor and enjoyment among the audience in the stormy evening of 4th April 2021. Overall, performances of different type amalgamated in a fine-tuned manner in the cultural program became a breath of relief for the audience in the pandemic lockdown situation. The Associate Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr. ABM Rahmatullah, the head of the department of English M. Hamidul Haque, all the faculties of the department of English and also from other different departments, students and a number of alumni of English department were present among the audience.
