Building Bridges Between Universities and Communities in Bangladesh:
An Exhibition
The AIUB Project Team composed of Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Faruque Hossain, Ms. Farheen Hassan, Ms. Hafsa Maryam and 9 other BBA students joined the exhibition held in Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Dhaka last Thursday, 3 October 2013. There are 15 projects funded by the British Council in collaboration with Actionaid, University Grants Commission and HEQEC. Of these 15 projects, 9 have been completed and 6 are about to start the implementation for a period of one year. AIUB-FBA will undertake the project entitled: Exploring Pathways of Economic Empowerment of the Slum Women in Sutrapur. It has to be noted that AIUB is the only private university selected to undertake a project.
The event was held in two parts. The first part opened with a rally which started from TSC, Dhaka University and followed with a informal opening of the program by the Honorable Chairman , (State Minister) of UGC, Prof. Dr. A K Azad Chowdhury. The participants went around the Winter Garden of the Hotel to view the exhibits. It was interesting to note that the project exhibits were all well prepared with banners, posters, fliers and video presentation. The participants were requested to write some comments on the project exhibits which inspired the Project Teams because of the positive remarks made by the participants. In the afternoon, the participants again convened in the Hall to attend the formal opening ceremony of the exhibition with the Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid as the Chief Guest. Also present to convey their messages were Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP, Honorable Minister of Education; His Excellency Robert W Gibson CMG, British High Commissioner in Bangladesh and Ms. Rosemary Arnott Obe, Director British Council Bangladesh. The visit of the dignitaries to the exhibit stalls ended the day-long event.
