BAETE Evaluates B.Sc. Engg. in EEE Program of AIUB for Renewal
of its Accreditation Status
The Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Bangladesh composed of four (4) members including three (3) Professors from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), the pioneer public university in Bangladesh in the field of engineering and technology, visited the American International University- Bangladesh (AIUB) to evaluate its B.Sc. Engg. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) program for renewal of accreditation. The evaluation was conducted by Prof. Dr. Sharif Mohammad Mominuzzaman as Chairman of the Team, Prof. M. M. Shahidul Hassan, Prof. Md. Ziaur Rahman Khan and Engr. M Abul Kalam Azad as members. The original schedule of the evaluation was for three (3) days, 1-3 July 2013 but was compressed to 2 days in view of some unavoidable circumstances. The evaluation activities were comprehensive and detailed which covered the essential areas on curriculum and instructions, faculty, students, laboratories and facilities. The team also conducted interview with the faculty members, students and support staff. They visited laboratories, classrooms and ongoing classes. Aside from ocular visits and interviews, the team reviewed the voluminous documents on the university-wide systems and procedures, and the documents being used in operating the B.Sc. in EEE program. On hand to assist the Team’s evaluation activities were the Faculty of Engineering headed by Mr. Rinku Basak, Head (Graduate Program), Dept. of EEE, Mr. Saniat RahmanZishan, Assistant Professor, Dept of EEE and Special Assistant, Office of Student Affairs, Mr. Nafiz Ahmed Chisty, Faculty and Special Assistant, Dept. of EEE, Ms. Laila Nawsheen Manzoor, Faculty and Special Assistant, Dept. of EEE and Mr. Imranul Haque of AQAC. Mr. Danny Morgia, IT Director conducted a demonstration on UMS to see the process and consistency of the grading system. The campus 2 officers headed by Mr. Shabbir Uddin Shuvo provided the adequate logistics support. Prof. Dr. Siddique Hossain, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Dean, Faculty of Business Adminstration and Overall Coordinator of Accreditation Program of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Tafazzal Hossain, Vice President Academics and Dean-in-Charge of the Faculty of Science and Information Technology made themselves available from the start to the end of the evaluation process to provide technical assistance and serve as resource persons for some issues and concerns that need clarification and action. The final activity of the Team was a meeting with the management and faculty to present and discuss areas of improvement. Relevant suggestions were taken into account for implementation. At this juncture, the management expressed its sincerest thanks and appreciation for the visit of the evaluation Team who really devoted their precious time and efforts under a hectic schedule to carry out the purpose of the visit.
