From the time of the Pyramids till Modern times, if a list of most significant buildings of the world is made, the National Parliament Building complex will feature very prominently among the top few in that list. It is said to be the culmination of modern period of architecture and the beginning of that of the post-modern era. This magnificent building stands as a silent evidence of the creative devotion and poetic vision of its American Master Architect, Louis I Kahn.
The class of Design Studio X with faculty members including their Studio Guides Ashik Vaskor Mannan, Hasan Ahmed Chowdury and Head of Architecture Department M. Arefeen Ibrahim made a trip to National Parliament Building, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka on Thursday, April 23, 2015. The trip also marks their official last day of class as undergraduate students. After successful completion of their Thesis Jury this group of students will become professional architects. What other than a trip to this magnificent architectural masterpiece would have left their hearts filled with cherished exclusive memories of the last day!
National Assembly Building is one of the majestic public buildings in our country with monumental scale. It truly is an architectural masterpiece for which the nation is proud of. It is a signature piece of Kahn's architecture of "silence and light". The group walked through the awe-inspiring interior spaces of this building including the The Library, The Ambulatory, The House, The Mosque, The North Plaza & The South Plaza etc. This successful trip has inspired the students with a delightful exposure to the master piece by Louis I Kahn which will hopefully motivate them for further studies about Kahn's work one day.
Architecture Department extends its gratitude towards the ones involved in arranging of the wonderful trip and is thankful to AIUB administration as well for the essential supports provided.
