Architecture students take a Study Trip to Scan Cement Factory at Kanchpur

Visits to building material manufacturing units are integral part of the learning process for Architecture students since site visit and hands-on training are two integral parts of architecture curriculum. Visits to such plants help the students to understand the manufacturing process and the properties of the materials used for construction of buildings. The Department of Architecture regularly arranges such study trips to various factories. This time it was the visit to Scan Cement factory at Kanchpur on Saturday, April 19, 2008. HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Ltd., which is the market leader in Bangladesh, operates two cement grinding plants in Dhaka, the capital city, and in Chittagong. HeidelbergCement Bangladesh Limited, is a member of German based HeideldelbergCement Group. The group has 134 years of experience in producing cement and is operating over 50 countries. It has around 46,000 employees and an annual turnover of Euro 9.2 billion. In 1999, HeidelbergCement acquired its operations in Bangladesh. The brand of cement produced is “Scan Cement”. The factory is run by state-of-the-art technology. The students accompanied by faculty members enjoyed their visit which was of course very effective and informative. The Department of Architecture would like to express its gratitude to the Scan Cement authorities for their support & hospitality and the University administration for providing us with the administrative support as always.
