ARCHITECTURE STUDENTS RECEIVE HONORABLE MENTION IN URBAN LAB COMPETITION

Within the frame of World Bank’s Participatory Urban Design Project, Superwien Urbanism is currently working with Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to develop the “Shahjahanpur Jheel”. As a part of this project, DSCC and World Bank (WB) hosted a student competition and a four-days Urban Lab to facilitate Academic Exchange and Capacity Building on Participatory Urban Design. The competition was organized by Superwien Urbanism, a Vienna base Design Studio, and their partners at Daffodil International University and Technical University of Vienna.

Twenty-four student teams from seven universities participated in the competition. Two faculties:  Farzana Siddiqa and Md Sariful Islam along with five selected teams consisting of 2/3 students from AIUB Architecture Department participated in the event. The team comprising of Alvi Md. Ragib Nihal Khan, Nazia Nasrin Aubontee, Gazi Anika Tasnim achieved the Honorable Mention. Main theme of this competition was to generate idea for ‘Renewal of Shahjahanpur Jheel.” Roland Krebs (SUWI), Sirajul Islam (DSCC), Ishita Alam Abonee (WB), Markus Tomaselli (TU Wien), Nahas Khalil (Architect) were the honorable jurors of this competition.

Several lectures and presentations related to local and International Urban Projects were arranged for the students, academic staff and associates. A two-day training Session on Participatory Urban Design was arranged for the academic staff where both the faculties from AIUB actively participated.  The key-note speeches, academic inputs and panel discussions helped for guiding the Design Proposal Development. Participation in the event & competition was possible for the immense support & coordination from Head of the Department M. Arefeen Ibrahim. The Department is thankful to AIUB authorities and congratulates the winners on this occasion.
