On Thursday, 26 November 2020, an invaluable edition of the Dr. Anwarul Abedin Lecture Series was held virtually with Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) as the distinguished speaker. “The Accreditation Program in the Context of Higher Education in Bangladesh” was the title of his lecture. Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin highlighted in his lecture by tracing the brief history of higher education in Bangladesh and how it evolved to flourish as both private and public universities. Universities of the country have evolved to concentrate more on the instruments of academic quality and employability of their graduates. With accreditation as a process to measure quality, he is optimistic that new horizons will appear, and new paradigm shift will take place in the curriculum development. The lecture was very informative as he emphasized on the challenge that no university can escape of having its academic programs undergo accreditation process. During this event, the honorable Vice Chancellor of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), Dr. Carmen Z Lamagna warmly welcomed the speaker and all the participants underscoring the value of the lecture series organized for more than a decade now to honor the founder of AIUB and the first Chairman of the Board, Dr. Anwarul Abedin. After the lecture of the distinguished speaker, a couple of important questions were raised by the participants on the value of national and international accreditation in relation to BAC and also on the importance of blending the academic and corporate needs in curriculum contents. The responses enlightened the audience about their individual roles in the accreditation process. In Recognition of Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin’s valuable knowledge and comprehensive discussion of the topic, a Plaque of Appreciation was presented to him. On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the citation was read by Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Vice President Academics and Director, IQAC who at the same time delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Deans, Associate Deans, Directors, Deputy Directors, Department Heads of both the academic and nonacademic, faculty members, officers and students of AIUB connected through the online zoom platform and participated in the lecture.
