The AIUB Economics Club successfully organized an "Alumni Career Talk" on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the Media Studio of American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB). The session welcomed two distinguished alumni: Ms. Nazia Zaman Chowdhury, Lecturer at the Department of Economics, AIUB, and Mr. Faridul Islam, Manager of Industrial Production and Engineering at Sterling Styles Ltd.
This career talk served as a vital platform to connect current students with the lived experiences of graduates who have transitioned into successful professional roles. Alumni career talks are more than just storytelling sessions—they are powerful tools for bridging the often-daunting gap between academic theory and the real-world demands of the job market. They provide students with a realistic perspective on what lies ahead and how to prepare for it effectively.
Both speakers shared their unique professional journeys, candidly discussing the challenges they encountered and how they navigated them. Ms. Nazia Zaman Chowdhury highlighted the importance of continuous learning and adaptability in the academic and development sectors, while Mr. Faridul Islam emphasized the practical applications of economics in industrial operations and the garment manufacturing industry.
Their advice went beyond textbook knowledge, offering students concrete guidance on how to shape their own career paths. Key takeaways included strategies for skill development, building a professional network, identifying industry-relevant certifications, and understanding the dynamics of a competitive job market. These discussions offered students not only inspiration but also actionable steps toward achieving their career aspirations. Importantly, events like these create opportunities for long-term engagement between alumni and students. They foster a sense of community and open up possibilities for mentorship, internships, collaborative projects, and even job placements.
The event commenced with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Farhana Rafiq, Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Mentor of the AIUB Economics Club. Her remarks underscored the significance of alumni involvement in enriching the academic environment. The session was graced by Dr. Faria Sultana, Head of the Economics Department, along with other esteemed faculty members who expressed their support for such interactive initiatives.
By bringing seasoned professionals back to campus, the AIUB Economics Club reaffirmed its commitment to student development, practical learning, and building a strong and supportive alumni network.
