AIUB's 22nd Convocation held

The 22nd Convocation Ceremony of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) was held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at AIUB's permanent campus in Kuril, Dhaka. His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Shahabuddin, the Honorable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and Chancellor of AIUB, kindly authorized Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, to preside over the ceremony and confer degrees upon the graduating students. Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, Honorable Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, attended as the Special Guest. The convocation was graced by Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan, a writer, scholar, and recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024, who served as the Convocation Speaker. Ms. Nadia Anwar, Chairman and Founder Member of the Board of Trustees of AIUB, Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, and Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, also delivered speeches on this occasion.

A total of 2,547 graduates who successfully completed all academic requirements in various disciplines of Bachelor's and Master's degree programs were conferred degrees at AIUB’s 22nd Convocation. Medals were awarded in different categories to meritorious students in recognition of their academic achievements and excellence as follows: Chancellor’s Gold Medal – 3, Dr. Anwarul Abedin Leadership Award – 20, Vice-Chancellor’s Award – 23, Summa Cum Laude (Gold Medal) – 79, Magna Cum Laude (Silver Medal) – 128, and Cum Laude (Bronze Medal) – 39.

Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Honorable Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, congratulated the new graduates. He stated that education is a powerful tool for ensuring equality. One can earn money without education, but with education, no one can take it away from you. Education and experience cannot be stolen. Graduates should first take care of their families, be mindful of their country, and be compassionate toward others. The quality and sincerity of teachers are extremely important. He thanked AIUB for successfully achieving this.

Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, Honorable Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, congratulated the graduates participating in AIUB's 22nd Convocation. He addressed the graduates who received their degrees, stating that everyone can judge between good and bad; however, only those enlightened by education can judge wisely.

The Convocation Speaker, Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan, a writer, scholar, and recipient of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2024, stated in his convocation speech that we should take lessons on how to guide society towards justice, liberation, and freedom. He expressed his pleasure at hearing that AIUB has successfully completed 22 Convocation ceremonies and told the students that a university is never private in society; a university is the property of the nation.

Ms. Nadia Anwar, Chairman and Founder Member of the AIUB Board of Trustees, welcomed all graduates in her speech, stating that this isn’t the end; it’s just the beginning. This campus will always be your home, and we will always be your biggest fans. No matter where life takes you, AIUB will cheer you on, celebrate your wins, and support you when you need it.

Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice-Chancellor of AIUB, said, "Today, we celebrate not only your achievements but also the bright future that awaits you. We are proud of our graduates for their accomplishments. I am sure that the respected parents are also proud of their sons and daughters for successfully completing their studies and obtaining their degrees. On this occasion of happiness and achievement, I pray to Almighty Allah to guide you on the right path to your ultimate success."

Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, in his vote of thanks, said, "On behalf of AIUB, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the distinguished students, parents, and guests who have graced this event with their presence today”.

The Founding Members of AIUB, Dr. Hasanul A. Hasan and Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin, along with the Members of the Board of Trustees, Syndicate and Academic Council Members, Treasurer, Deans, Registrar, and other university officials, graced the ceremony. The event was also attended UGC representatives, graduating students and their families, as well as many journalists of the print and electronic media.
