AIUB’s 14th Convocation
The 14th
Convocation of the American International University – Bangladesh
(AIUB) was held on Thursday, the February 27, 2014 at the Bangladesh
Military Museum, Bijoy Sharani, Dhaka. His Excellency Md. Abdul Hamid,
Honorable President of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh &
Chancellor of the University has kindly presided the ceremony and
conferd the Degrees to the Graduating students. Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid M.P
the Honorable Minister, Ministry of Education of the Government of the
People’s Republic of Bangladesh was present as Special Guest and Prof.
A. K. Azad Chowdhury was the Convocation Speaker.
On
behalf of the AIUB Trustee Board Mr. Ishtiaque Abedin and the Vice
Chancellor of AIUB Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna also spoke on the occasion. A
total number of 2730 graduates were conferred degrees for successfully
completion of all the academic requirements in various disciplines of
the Bachelors and Masters Degree Programs of the University.
The following Medals were awarded in different categories to the meritorious students for their academic and other excellence:
Congratulating
the Graduating students, the President said, “National development
specially depend on education and research. To ensure this development
we need to spread our education program me to towards all corner of the
country. He emphasized that Priority should be given to science and
Information Technology, Engineering and technical education to fulfill
the commitment of present Govt. to build digital Bangladesh Programme.
Accordingly curriculam should be uptodated and designed so that students
can earned practical knowledge. He is happy that AIUB is playing a
vital role in this respect. All other University should also follow the
same and create such manpower who can contribute to the socio economic
development of the Country keeping on our cultural sprit. To maintain
the Administration, Academic and financial; system in the Private
University. Properly he urged all authority to obey the newly promoted
Act-2010 for the Private University. He also remember those persons who
sacrificed their life for the cause of mother tongue. Mentioning the
ancient European university such as Nalanda, Bikramshila and Thakhashila
etc. the Hon’ble President said that these Universities established on
personal initiative of the Subcontinent. Keeping this in the mind our
universities will devote their activities in the same way. He also
highlighted about the number of students in the higher education which
increased from 11 lac in 2005 to 22 lac in at present. So Bangladesh is
in 4th position compare to China, India and Indonesia.
