AIUB World Cup 2014 Football Tournament
Portugal (MBA) becomes Champion

The Final match of the 7 days long (June 4 to June 10, 2014 ) Football Tournament “AIUB World Cup 2014” of American International University – Bangladesh was held in the Banani Club Ground at Dhaka on June 10, 2014 at 1:30 PM. In total 32 teams from different departments (both undergraduate and graduate) and two faculty / officers’ teams participated in the tournament.

The Honorable Vice Chancellor,  Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna inaugurated the tournament at 9.30 am on June 4, 2014. Among others Dr. Charles Villanueva, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean (Faculty of Business Administration), Mr. Manzur H. Khan, Director (Office of Student Affairs), Mr. A. K. Nazmul, Director, BBA Program and Coordinator (Office of Sports) and other Officials were also present at the inauguration ceremony besides university students and faculty members and officials. In the opening match Netherlands (EEE) beat the Germany (BBA) team by 5-4 (1-1) in penalty shootout.

In the final match the Portugal (MBA) team defeated the Uruguay (EEE) team by 5-3 goals and became the Champion. Mahi of the Runner-up team Uruguay (EEE) became the best player of the tournament while Shaffi (Uruguay) was the highest scorer of the tournament scoring 7 goals. Habibullah from the Champion team was selected as the Man of the Match in the final.

Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean (Faculty of Business Administration), Abdul Kader Nazmul, Director (BBA Program and Coordinator, Office of Sports) were present during the final match and gave prizes, trophies and certificates to the players after the match. Senior AIUB Officials and a large number of students were also present and all of them enjoyed the final match and also the prize distribution ceremony. The Media Partners of this tournament were ATN Bangla, Asian Radio 90.8 FM and daily observer.
