AIUB went to distribute relief goods to the victims of "Aila"
A few students of the BBA department of the American International University (AIUB) went to distribute relief goods to the victims of “Aila” under the banner of a Social Welfare Club (proposed) named “AIUB Shomoy”. They carried out a campaign to collect funds for over a week starting from the 8th of June to the 17th in the campuses of AIUB. They managed to collect almost Tk. 70,000 from the Students, Faculty Members, Deans and the Management of AIUB.
They did a lot of ground work in order to determine which villages were the worst hit and what items were most essential for the local people of the disaster zone of Shathkhira. They identified the Village of Japa and Pata Khali under Padma Pukur Union and Chawkbara Village under Gabura Union to be the worst hit areas by the Cyclone “Aila”. They also identified 500 most badly hit families and decided to distribute 1500 kg of rice, 600 kg potatoes, 300 kg dal and 500 pieces of sarees amongst them.
With this vision 10 students namely: Imran, Aftab, Akash, Shojib, Shakil, Shujit, Jico, Murad, Riyadh, Hisham along with an administrative officer Mr. Mojaddid Al Jadid left for Shathkhira on the 19th of June from Dhaka. Mr. Hasanul A Hasan, Founder and Vice President, HR, Admin and Treasury and other officials of AIUB were present at the time of departure. After reaching Shathkhira they purchased the items from the local market with the help of the Shamnagar Thana Chairman and other local officials they successfully distributed the relief goods amongst 500 families of Japa and Pata Khali Village under Padma Pukur Union and Chawkbara Village under Gabura Union.
Finally they returned home to Dhaka on the 20th of June after a completion of a very rewarding and successful mission under the Banner of AIUB Social Welfare Club “AIUB Shomoy”.
