The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is proud to announce a remarkable international achievement by students from the Department of Computer Science, who represented Bangladesh at the World Youth Invention and Innovation Award (WYIIA) 2025, organized by the Indonesian Young Scientist Association (IYSA) in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The event took place from October 14-17, 2025, at BG Junction Mall, Surabaya, Indonesia, and brought together 355 teams (both online and onsite) from 16 countries, including Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Thailand, Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Philippines, Iran, Turkey, Romania, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, and Indonesia.
The competition featured award categories in Mathematics, Environment, Technology, Energy and Engineering, Life Science, Social Science, Physics, and Education.
The AIUB team achieved outstanding success, securing two prestigious distinctions:
• Gold Medal in the Technology Category
• IYSA Semi Grand Award
Team Members:
• Rayan Alam (Team Leader)
• Hasibul Hasan
• Md Mehedi Hasan Ratul
The team demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and vision throughout their project journey - from concept development to international recognition. His exemplary coordination of research, technical development, and international presentation was instrumental in achieving this milestone.
About the Project:
The project introduces an innovative solution designed to assist farmers through the power of modern technology. Instead of relying on guesswork to estimate crop yields,it employs a custom-built drone that captures aerial images of rice fields. These images are analyzed using a machine learning model developed by the team to detect and count rice panicles, enabling early yield estimation long before harvest. The analyzed results are displayed on a web-based application, allowing farmers to log in, monitor field data, compare growth stages, and plan for storage and sales. This data- driven approach aims to make agriculture more efficient, sustainable, and predictive, reducing uncertainty for farmers and increasing productivity.
Supervision: The project was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Ebad Zahir, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, American International University-Bangladesh. His valuable guidance, technical insights, and continuous encouragement played a crucial role in shaping the team’s research direction and achieving this remarkable success.
