The American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) is proud to share that students of AIUB have been selected to present at the first-ever Responsible Futures Student Sustainability Symposium, organized by Responsible Futures International, an initiative led by Students Organizing for Sustainability (SOS-UK), and co-hosted by the University of the West of England.
This prestigious opportunity marks a milestone for AIUB, which is honored to be the first and only university from Asia to join the Responsible Futures International 2024/25 cohort. The symposium will highlight impactful student projects from across the globe that promote sustainability and ethical practices in higher education.
Highlighted AIUB Student Projects
As part of the global initiative AIUB’s current project “Responsive and Responsible University” coordinated by the Magna Charta Observatory (MCO), students from Architecture and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs at AIUB developed two transformative interventions at the Korail Slum in Dhaka:
Sustainable Housing by Architecture Students
Focused on SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), students redesigned four households across Korail using low-cost, eco-friendly materials such as eucalyptus wood, fiberglass roofing, and exhaust systems. Their work significantly improved ventilation, natural lighting, and indoor air quality.
Health and Hygiene Intervention by MPH Students
Through Communication for Development (C4D) strategies, MPH students tackled pressing adolescent health issues. Their work included pre/post surveys, community posters, a Facebook awareness page in Bengali (তরুণ আলো - Torun Alo), and creative audio campaigns via local "miking" to promote wellness and reproductive health awareness.
