American International University–Bangladesh (AIUB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter on January 15, 2026, marking a significant milestone in advancing collaboration in gender equity, energy sector development, and academic–industry engagement. The MoU was signed on behalf of AIUB by Prof. Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, former Vice Chancellor and member, Board of Trustees of AIUB, and on behalf of WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter by Mr. Sohel Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Secretariat, WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter.

Notably, AIUB is the only educational institution formally associated with the WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter, underscoring its unique leadership role in integrating higher education with national and regional initiatives aimed at empowering women in the power and energy sector. Under this agreement, AIUB will facilitate office space on its permanent campus for establishing the WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter Secretariat, positioning the university as a central hub for coordination, research, and policy dialogue. Launched in June 2024 under the leadership of the Power Division, WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter is part of the South Asia Women in Power Sector Professional Network supported by the World Bank and ADB. Through this partnership, AIUB will gain enhanced national and regional visibility, strengthened global partnerships, and a leadership position in STEM gender equity, along with priority access to gender and energy-focused programs. The collaboration will promote joint research, curriculum enrichment, seminars, workshops, conferences, and knowledge-sharing initiatives, while strengthening university–industry linkages and supporting international fund mobilization and institutional capacity building. By signing this MoU, AIUB and WePOWER Bangladesh National Chapter reaffirm their shared commitment to inclusive development, innovation, and sustainable impact, contributing to the advancement of women’s leadership in the power sector and reinforcing Bangladesh’s integration into global academic and professional networks.
