AIUB Regional Cisco Networking Academy Community Outreach Program
As part of the community outreach program, on March 12, 2009, a team of AIUB Cisco Networking Regional Academy comprising of students and instructors lead by Asst. Prof. Md. Manirul Islam, Coordinator of the Continuing Education Center, at the American International University Bangladesh, and the Quality Assurance Support Specialist for Cisco in Bangladesh, visited the Center for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), at Chapain in Savar. The AIUB Team set up the Local Area Network (LAN) of the center voluntarily and distributed clothes to the needy people afterwards.
The 13 member team started their journey from AIUB Campus-4 towards CRP, Savar riding AIUB Mini Bus at 9:30 am. They reached CRP at around 11:30 am and the CRP team cordially welcomed the visiting team and briefed them about different activities of the center. Then the visiting team had a guided tour of all the sections of the center and was overwhelmed by observing the utmost humanitarian service they are providing to the physically handicapped people. Later the team was brought to the computer center where they setup the computer LAN. Networking academy students were very enthusiastic and energetic and completed LAN setup quite satisfactorily within 3 hours. CRP management highly appreciated the efforts of the AIUB-CISCO Networking Team, and thanked AIUB for extending a caring hand to the less privileged and often neglected members of the community, as part of AIUB’s service and commitment to the society.
In late afternoon, the team had a short guided tour of the Jahangirnagar University campus and started their journey back to Dhaka in the evening. On the way back to Dhaka, the team distributed a good number of clothes donated by the students of the AIUB Cisco Networking Academy to the destitute and deprived people in some slum areas in the town. Finally they returned back to campus at 9:30 pm. In short, it was a great day and everybody felt the passion of providing more attention and service to the under-served community. The entire voluntary program was organized with the kind consent of Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of AIUB.
