AIUB PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB’S 3RD NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION: “TALE OF THE DARKROOM”

The art of photography is one that has long been revered and marveled upon. It is an art of observation; one that has little to do with the things you see, and everything to do with the way you see them. It’s about the way something makes you feel, that cannot be put into words like a song nor painted like a picture. It is in the moment itself. Moments that the AIUB Photography Club (AIUBPC) have always had an eye for. With so many rising amateur photographers, passionate about capturing the world as it is and seeing it differently, AIUBPC brought an idea to life. Providing a common platform for young talented photographers from various established universities and colleges, AIUBPC’s national photography exhibitions bring in fresh new perspectives that leave people in awe at the talented youth of Bangladesh.

The “Tale of The Darkroom” is the 3rd national photography exhibition, organized by the AIUBPC, that was held from the 5th – 8th of April 2017 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. This exhibition showcased the work of amateur photographers across Bangladesh, reflecting their passion, creativity, and skill. From amidst an overwhelming response of over 5500 submissions from around 650 photographers hailing from different parts of the country, 133 versatile images from 87 brilliant individuals were selected for the exhibition.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB, Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, inaugurated the exhibition on the 5th of April 2017 at the Shilpakala Auditorium & Gallery, where he also delivered a vote of thanks to all the participants and organizers, who made the event possible. He also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the university and AIUBPC, for the jury members, Mr. Saud Al Faisal, Professional Photographer and Founder Member of “Through The Lens: Bangladesh”, Mr. Mishuk Ashraful Awal, Faculty Member, Department of Photography, Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Mr. Kudrat E Khoda, Conservative Photographer, Professional Photographer & Curator for the exhibition, for their valuable time and contribution to the exhibition. The Opening Ceremony also included a program by the AIUB Performing Arts Club (APAC), which was received with great appreciation from the entire audience.

The exhibition was concluded by Mr. Ziarat H. Khan, the Deputy Director of the Office of Student Affairs, on the 8th of April 2017 through the Closing Ceremony. He too expressed his gratitude on behalf of AIUB, to all the talented individuals whose relentless hard work and combined efforts throughout the preparation of the exhibition, and on the days that followed, were given their well-deserved credit for the overall success of the event. AIUB always prides itself in the artistic flair and caliber of its talented students, and even more so when it comes to such creativity and innovation that brought the ‘tale of the darkroom’ to light.
